Infant Massage Training

Calm-a-Baby are one of the leading infant massage training organisations in the UK. Our trainings are accredited by the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). We run an extensive in-house training option for professional organisations and primary care trusts and conduct regular courses in Cambridgsehire for individuals wishing to attain certification.

The Certified Infant Massage Training Course is a four day postgraduate internationally recognised qualification. The Course is open to massage therapists, holders of anatomy and physiology qualifications, health professionals, body workers and parents. Delegates will learn how to teach infant massage, how to assist parents in the healthy development of their babies and enhance the bonding between them.

What the course covers:
 
The fifteen point core curriculum -
  1. History of infant massage and the IAIM
  2. Demonstration of strokes and gentle activities
  3. Three-day practicum class with parents and babies
  4. Teaching the benefits - psychological, physical and emotional effects for both parent and baby
  5. Infant crying - how to read cues and respond appropriately 
  6. Infant behavioural states, cues and reflexes
  7. How bonding and attachment are affected and enhanced by baby massage
  8. Self awareness of emotional elements and support
  9. Communication skills
  10. Group facilitation skills
  11. The growing child  - how to adapt the massage as a baby grows
  12. Special situations and adaptation of the massage program - dealing with premature babies, colic and other special needs.
  13. Touch and massage research
  14. Public relations and marketing  - how to find parents, where to advertise and setting up a group
  15. Teaching skills 
     

What qualification is received?

After successful completion of the four-day training delegates are qualified to teach infant massage to parents as part of their take home open book further study. This study comprises: a short answer paper, a multiple choice questionnaire, write up on a research paper (provided) and self-assessment after teaching the program to parents.

Once this study is completed and marked by the trainer the final qualification of Certified Infant Massage Instructor is awarded and is accredited by the International Association of Infant Massage.
