Birthing Lightly - Active Birth Course

Our Birthing Course is led by Sally Lomas, she is a mother of four children, FEDANT registered (12131), a Birthlight Tutor and holds an original Active Birth qualification. Sally has been teaching and tutoring for over twenty years and has attended the birth of a great number of babies. Rest assured by choosing to attend a birthing course with us you are in the most knowledgeable, experienced and wise hands.

What the course covers:

A chance to focus on one of the most important events of your life. Information is given on the stages of labour, what to expect, and how to support a woman in labour. You will learn specific breathing techniques and have time to discuss ideas and concerns in a very relaxed atmosphere. Many couples make good friends and are able to share their experiences of pregnancy and parenthood.

The course includes:

  • How we can influence and change the birth experience
  • Hormones and the primal brain
  • The signs and stages of labour
  • The perception of pain
  • Dealing with complications that may arise; knowing your options
  • The advantages of upright positions
  • Massage and positions for birth
  • The physical and emotional environment
  • Life after birth; what to expect in the first few weeks
  • Celebration of birth!

The fundamental aspects of labour and birth are explored: how the natural release of hormones affects the rhythm and flow of labour; how the position of the mother's body will aid the journey of the baby through the birth canal. Breathing techniques for labour and birth are included as well as practical ideas for partners on how to help a woman in labour. A one hour aquanatal yoga taster session is also included.

We recognise that not all deliveries are as nature intended and for this reason we educate (but do not focus on) all types of delivery to ensure they are fully prepared and able to make informed decisions should the need arise.

The course runs over two Sundays between 10am and 3pm, costs £80 and is designed for women and their birth partners. For course start dates, please see the class dates and booking page.
