Baby Massage
Baby massage gives the opportunity for nurturing skin-to-skin contact using organic, plant based oils to enhance the experience. Babies live to be touched by their parents and a daily massage provides the perfect opportunity for communication and deepens the bonding experience. Regular massage aids relaxation and sleep, relieves wind and colic, promotes healthy development and physical well being.
A five week baby massage course offers much more than just how to massage a baby. Each 90 minute session covers the massage strokes and gentle stretches, as well as time for discussion of relevant parenting topics. This discussion time is for parents to share ideas and experiences (if they choose to) and ask questions to the group and teacher. Usual topics include but are not restricted to: sleeping, feeding, feelings and emotions, demands of becoming a parent, crying and carrying.
The massage strokes are taught gradually over the five week course as follows:
Week 1 - Leg Massage
Week 2 - Stomach massage, including the colic routine (and recap on leg strokes)
Week 3 - Chest and arms massage (and recap on stomach and legs)
Week 4 - Face and back massage (and recap all previuos strokes)
Week 5 - Whole body massage and gentle yoga stretches
Our instructors are all fully qualified and hold certification with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). A teacher will never massage a baby, the only person to touch or massage in our classes is the parent or caregiver.
