FAQs for parents
Swimming:
- Does my baby need immunisations before swimming? Babies do not need any injections before attending our classes, however, please speak to your midwife or doctor if you have any concerns and for advice specific to your baby. Also, please see www.who.int or www.immunisation.nhs.uk for more information.
- What age can a baby or child join classes? Any age from birth onwards is suitable. The earlier a baby is re-introduced to water the easier the transition to swimming can be. However, it is never too late to start; toddlers and children up to the age of three years are welcome.
- What should my child wear? It is a rule of our pool that all babies (and children who are in nappies) wear a double layer which is sealed at the legs and stomach to prevent leakage and contamination of the water. All babies must wear either a disposable or reusable swim nappy as a base layer with a 'happy nappy' on top. For purchase of happy nappies please see the swim shop.
- Can my baby or child swim straight after a feed? We generally recommend that 30 minutes is allowed after a milk feed for babies and an hour for toddlers and children on solids. However, we do accept that there are exceptions to every rule and often a small comfort feed for babies is necessary at poolside.
